Resolution on the Zimbabwean Crisis

Resolution on the Zimbabwean Crisis

9 Aug 2008

Following the resolution of the 33rd General Assembly in Thailand, the 34th General Assembly notes with deep concern the continued worsening crisis in Zimbabwe and joins other ecumenical organisations and the international community in speaking against the continued human rights abuses.

The 34th General Assembly stands with the SCM in Zimbabwe and the majority of the population particularly the youth and women who have been heavily affected by the crisis. In this regard we specifically condemn the intermittent closure of the SCM Zimbabwe office.

We urge the SCMs and the global community to advocate for an end to violence, a return to democracy and for restorative justice to be implemented in Zimbabwe. We seek to support student activities that contribute to the promotion of peace and justice in Zimbabwe.
