GA Venue & Accommodation

Collège Jean-de-Brebéuf is the meeting venue for all business sessions, common worship, group work and committee meetings of the WSCF 34th General Assembly. Collège Jean-de-Brebéuf is a large complex of buildings which houses a secondary school and collegiate school, a large chapel and a 200-person residence. It is situated beside the University of Montreal on the north side of the mountain which gives Montreal its name -Mount Royal.

The Men’s and Women’s Pre-Assemblies will be held at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf as will the programme of the Senior Friends' Gathering.

GA delegates will leave the venue to go out into Montreal and surrounding areas for local church visits and exposure/experiential learning trips. General Assembly delegates will be accommodated in the residence on site at Collège Jean-de-Brebéuf and will eat meals at the College, except during exposure visits and the Women’s Pre-Assembly visit to the Senate in Ottawa.

GA visitors day pass

Visitors to the GA will need to pay a fixed day fee of C$22.00 (students/seniors C$ 15.00) to cover administration and support services expenses. Please pay day pass fees to Jane Sorensen, GA Coordinator. The GA administration office is located in room 3.04 on the 3rd floor of the main building at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf.

A. Ancienne Chapelle/ Grand Salle
The Ancienne Chapelle/Grand Salle is situated on the 3rd floor of the central college building. WSCF GA plenary sessions, worship and keynote addresses will be held in the Ancienne Chapelle/Grand Salle.

B. East Wing of the College (Aile Est du Collège)
East Wing of the College. WSCF GA commissions, Bible studies and small group meetings and will be held in classrooms on the third floor of the west wing.

C. West Wing (Aile Ouest du Collège)
WSCF GA commissions, Bible studies and small group meetings and will be held in classrooms on the third floor of the west wing.

D. Central College Building (Partie Centrale du Collège)
WSCF GA commissions, Bible studies and small group meetings and will be held in classrooms on the third floor of the central college building. The central College building also houses the WSCF GA administration offices, GA translation and interpretation services, GA media team and the WSCF search committee. All WSCF GA offices are situated on the third floor.

E. Lalemant House (Pavillon Lalemant)-College residence, auditorium
General Assembly delegates, staff, administration and stewards will be accommodated from floors 4-8 of the College residence, Lalemant House.
The WSCF Senior Friend’s gathering will be meeting in the College auditorium which is situated in Lalemant House.

F.Cafeteria
The College cafetria is the venue for all meals and tea breaks, which will be catered for the General Assembly participants.Meal vouchers are available for purchase by visitors at the GA administration office, room 3.04.

WSCF 34th General Assembly worship, keynote addresses and plenary meetings will be held in the Grand Chapelle/Grand Salle of the Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf. The Grand-Chapelle is a magnificent worship and meeting space. It is a classic neo-romanesque basilica of the style that was favoured in Roman Catholic architecture in the 19th century. Classrooms

Group work, planning and small meetings will be held in classrooms of the College. The classrooms are equipped with desks and chairs and can comfortably hold groups of up to 40.

General Assembly accommodation

College residence

The Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf residence accommodates approx. 200 people in its 70 single rooms and 45 double rooms. Rooms are provided with bed linen, towels and soap and wash-hand basins. Showers and toilets are situated on the same floor as each room and residents have access to living rooms.

College Food services

Cafeteria
The College offers a cafeteria service which will provide breakfasts, lunches and dinners for all WSCF General Assembly participants. The cafeteria has a capacity of 400 places and serves complete meals (hot meats, savoury dishes, salad counter, desserts). Visitors to the GA will need to order their meals in advance through the WSCF GA Coordinator, Jane Sorensen. Resource people and other participants who will be at the GA for a short stay will be provided with meal vouchers for the cafeteria by the GA administration. General Assembly mealtimes are as follows:

Breakfast 7:00 - 8:00am Lunch 1:30 - 2:30pm Dinner 6:00 - 7:00pm

General Assembly meetings also have short tea breaks in the morning and afternoons as follows:

College residential support services office

The Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf residential support services office is situated at room G1.81. From June 24th till the end of August the office is open from 8am till midnight daily.

College Laundry rooms

Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf has two laundry rooms available for use by residents. One is situated in front of the elevators, on the 3rd floor and the other is on the 4th floor, to the right of the elevators.

Resident’s living rooms

A residents-only living room is available on the 4th floor of the College and on the ground floor at G1.65. Living rooms are equipped with television sets, DVD players and armchairs.

Kitchenettes

Residents have access to kitchenettes in the residence which contain refrigerators, microwave ovens and stovetops.

Internet access

A wireless network is accessible for laptop internet access. Ask at the Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf Residence Office to obtain a code and password. You can also access the internet using PC computers in the G1.65 living room.

Pharmacy & hospital

The nearest hospital for adults is the Jewish General Hospital situated in the nearby suburb of Côte des Neiges, on the corner of Chemin de la Côte des Neiges and Chemin Côte-Ste-Catherine. A “Pharmaprix” pharmacy across the street from Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf on Chemin de la Côte des Neiges sells personal hygiene necessities, medicines, camera batteries, cleaning products, cards and candy and provides a Postal Counter for buying stamps sending letters and postcards.

Shopping

Bars, restaurants, supermarkets, a book store and a library are all in walking distance on nearby street Chemin de la Côte des Neiges.

University of Montreal

Cemetery Park

Nearby is a picturesque 19th ornamented Roman Catholic cemetery in a large park - Cimetiére de Notre-Dame-Des Neiges. The cemetery also serves as a botanic garden and is in walking distance of the College off Chemin de la Côte des Neiges or though the grounds of Montreal University (Université Montreal).

Rules and regulations for the Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf residence

In order to ensure a friendly and cordial atmosphere, as well as respect and mutual agreement, Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf requests that guests conform to the following rules and regulations:

1.Residents must always use the entrance situated at 5625 Decelles (Pavillon Lalement); this entrance is under surveillance at all times. All other doors are linked to an alarm system.
2.Upon arrival, residents will be given a key and asked to deposit 10$ in exchange. This deposit will be refunded when the key is returned.
3.On the day of departure, residents will be asked to leave their rooms before 11:00 am. There will be a room in which residents can temporarily store their luggage.
4.As of 10:30 pm, silence is mandatory in hallways and throughout the campus as a sign of respect to fellow residents.
5.Residents are asked to be courteous and not to shower between 11:00 pm and 7:00 am.
6.The residence and school are non-smoking areas.
7.It is strictly prohibited to drink alcohol or smoke drugs.
8.Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf is not responsible for thefts, lost items, damaged goods or other incidents that may affect personal belongings.
9.If residents damage College property, they will be held responsible and will have to financially compensate for any ensuing repair or for the replacement of the damaged item.
10.Residents are allowed to attend only the floor sections that are reserved for their group. The access to other floor sections is strictly prohibited.
11.Please keep rooms in proper order for cleaning.
12.At all times, you must assure the presence of at least one adult as long as there are young members of your group in the college.
