Commission 3
Radical Renewal: Biblical and Theological Reflection in the 21th Century
On the first day, we exchanged our ideas and faced the questions: What do we bring to this commission? What do you expect for the commission? and each one of us shared his or her own expectations with the group. Then we arranged this information into the following categories...
- Strategies, empowerment
- Theology in diversity, diversifying theology
- Contextual theology, from the ground, not “top-down”
- Public and liberation theology
- Locating our theology, renewal, theological foundation
- Prophetic theology
- Pneumatology
- Post-colonial ( cultural+faith, inculturation)
- Theological foundation, Biblical interpretation
On the second day, we had two keynote speakers; Thomas Wieser (Switzerland, SCM Secretary USA 1955-60, WCC Staff 1970-84), and Demetrius Semien, M.Div (USA, Berea College Dept. of Sociology)
Thomas spoke on the topic about Theology. He raised several questions; What is God doing today in our society? What is he calling us to do?, followed by discussions about our ‘calling’ .
With Demetrius we discussed the topics: Sociology, Power privilege, Miriam (Numbers:12), Theological Response to Prison and Race-ethnicity dialogue. At the end, we were divided into small groups, and shared our stories about social problems based on racism.
