Assembly appoints General Secretary for new quadrennium

Michael Wallace
2 Aug 2008

WSCF’s 34th General Assembly has re-elected Rev’d Michael Wallace (Aotearoa New Zealand) as the Federation’s General Secretary for the next four years.

Mr Wallace was recommended to WSCF's Executive Committee, who decided to present him to the General Assembly for election to another term as General Secretary.

Before making the positive recommendation the Federation's Search Committee had considered before the Assembly.

The committee headed by former WSCF Chairperson Prof. Wong Wai Ching (Hong Kong)heard more on Michael’s vision for his work and the Federation’s future in an interview with Search Committee representatives from each of the Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and Caribbean, Middle East and North America regions on July 28, 2008.

Immediately prior to his presentation for re-election Mr Wallace had given an extensive and well-received report on the global activities of the Federation from the 2004 Chiang Mai Assembly up till the GA 2008. When WSCF Chairperson Dr Ken Guest put the General Secretary’s position to the Assembly for confirmation, Mr. Wallace’s reappointment was confirmed by standing ovation.

Concluding the General Secretary’s re-election, the Assembly noted that the appointment of one rather than two Co-Secretaries General remained a question of financial necessity.
